Trumpet daffodil is a pretty variety of daffodil. Trumpet daffodil belongs to a group of 11 other varieties such as double daffodil or large flowered daffodil.
The daffodil trumpet is characterized from its siblings by, you have already guessed, its strong trumpet shape.
Everyone will now be able to discover the different varieties, colors and scents of the "bulb of the year" trumpets, because the choice is certainly very large!
Yellow and white
The proven breeds giving yellow flowers are "Dutch Master", "Golden Harvest" and "Standard Value", breeds already known in the last century. A breed giving white flowers is called "Mound Hood".
Two-tone trumpet daffodil
Regarding the breeds giving two-colored flowers, the trumpets and the petals have different colors.
"Akita" is particularly noteworthy for its orange crown, while "Art Design" is one of the very special shaped daffodils.
"Bravor" and "Topolino" are distinguished by a yellow trumpet amidst creamy white petals.
A flowering over several years
The condition for seeing the daffodil bloom again is that it must be planted in a sunny spot in spring. Leave the bulb leaf after flowering as long as possible on the plant, amend with flower bulb fertilizer or a little manure in the fall or compost and the flowers will come back every year, over a period of 5 to 6 years.
One of the strengths of the daffodil is that this spring flower can remain in the ground to bloom again year after year.
Plant the trumpet daffodil
The daffodils are planted in the grass, but on the condition of not mowing before the plant is "dead", that is to say that the foliage is completely wilted.
This means that you have to wait the first time you mow until the daffodils are completely wilted or you mow between the flowers. This is the guarantee to see the daffodil bloom again year after year.
The rule for planting daffodils is as follows: bury the bulbs at a depth of 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb.
